Co-op Living

Why a co-op?

Co-ops offer members advantages often not available in other forms of housing.

Co-ops are communities in the truest sense of the word, fostering ongoing relationships with neighbours. Members purchase a share to join (similar to a damage deposit) and pay a monthly housing charge (similar to rent), but unlike being a renter, members have a voice in co-op governance.

While in a co-op, members can live in their home as long as they wish and have a say in the decisions in how they are managed.

A Secure Home

Co-op members have security of tenure. This means members who follow their co-op rules and pay their housing charges on time get to enjoy their home for as long as they wish.

You Have a Voice

Co-op members collaborate with Community Land Trust in the management of their co-op community, and most decisions are made based on a democratic vote.

Community First

Being involved in co-op events and initiatives, members foster strong and lasting relationships with one another.

The Community Land Trust forms a trusted partnership with their co-op communities.

Members still have a say in governance and community building, while the CLT oversees property management, debt financing, asset management and long-term financial stability. This model preserves and maintains the property for members, ensuring long-term viability and building trust for governments and other funders.
